Good grief, what a loud mouth

The couple across the hall started arguing last night and are STILL arguing at 5:23AM. I guess they slept or one worked in the meantime, but when Tim got home he could hear them and he left to go to work a little while ago and it had escalated. I understand arguing, Tim and I aren't perfect and have our moments. I just don't get it when people are this loud and just don't care about anyone else hearing all their personal stuff. She has such a loud mouth that it sounds like it's going on right outside my door. He gets loud sometimes, but most of the time I really don't hear him.

They do argue from time to time, but not usually like this. That thing on New Year's seemed to be more about the other couple that was there than about them. I guess I'm just getting old and like my peace and quiet.

ARGH! Had to call cops twice tonight

I haven't been to bed yet, partly because I didn't go to bed until about 2:30 or so because I was stitching, but mainly because since then I've had to call the cops twice because of the idiots across the hall from me. First, there were two guys arguing in the parking lot, and they were loud. It went on and on so I called because I thought it sounded like they were going to come to blows. I think by the time the police got here they'd stopped and come back inside. Then, about half an hour ago, a big blow-up between two girls and a guy started. I thought it was in the hallway but I guess it was actually in the apartment -- just loud enough that it sounded like it was in the hallway. So, got them out here again and this time they got here in time to talk to them. I think the two arguments were related and it sounded like the one woman was hyperventilating or something.

I don't usually call the cops but I figured better safe than sorry. I know people argue, but this was ridiculous and at one point I heard one of them hitting the other, just ridiculous. There's a difference between an argument and something that sounds like it's going to come to major blows any second and has gone on for many minutes.

At least I don't call them all the time. I felt like a dufus for calling them twice in a night, though. This place has really gone downhill in the time I've been here, which is about nine years. The funny thing is that the people who live across the hall from me tend to think they are better than the rest of us here -- yeah, obviously.

So, Tim will be coming home from work soon and I guess we'll be going to bed at the same time. I was planning on going to bed late, but not this late.

Took two days, but it's fixed!

I've taken the last two days to be here while whatever was wrong with my tub/shower got fixed so that water would stop leaking into my hallway. It wasn't just a little leak -- every time one of us took a shower the carpet would be sopping wet and you could see shoeprints clearly.

The reason I stayed home (and I'm glad I did) is that I don't trust my apartment (AM) manager to tell the maintenance man (MM) everything I tell her. If I hadn't been here today there would have still been a problem because of it, and it's not MM's fault. This happens all the time.

He recaulked the tub and parts of the shower yesterday but couldn't test the water then because of the caulk, which I understand. Realized I still had an awful leak after I took a shower yesterday, so called AM back yesterday to make sure MM could come out again today. I mentioned to her that we thought the shower could have something to do with it, as we noticed our shower pressure had dropped. As usual, she dismissed that, saying "Oh, that could happen due to a number of reasons, blah blah blah."

So, MM guy came today, took the access panel off the hallway wall and saw that the pipe from the drain area was broken. He also mentioned he'd like to punch whoever had the great idea years ago to put concrete around the pipes so that he had to break up a bunch of concrete to get the old pipe in and put the new one in. It took the guy about 2 hours to do that. After he was done I asked if he could run the shower because we thought that was a problem, too. Wonder of wonders -- she hadn't told him any of that. Yeah, that's why I had to be here, or else I would have had to call him back again. So, he tested it and then installed a new shower arm and head.

So, the problem is fixed but it makes me so mad that I have to take time off from work, my vacation days, to be here because dingbat AM won't tell MM the whole story because SHE KNOWS what the problem is and that whatever I think the problem is couldn't possibly be correct. It wouldn't have bothered me so much, except that I'm gone from Wed - Fri next week at CATS and we are all off on Monday as it's Yom Kippur and we get Jewish holidays off. I'll probably be working some over the weekend. It's not a huge deal, but I don't like being out that many days so close together, especially when today and yesterday were unplanned. I have a cool and understanding boss, and she knew I was worried and told me it's fine, but I don't want to take advantage, either.

Anyway, I just had to get that out of my system. It seems to be OK now, which is good. Now I need to start harping on AM to fix the water damage I've had in my apartment forever due to other plumbing issues that were not my fault. I've mentioned them a few times to her, but I think if I report them again and nothing happens I'll have to write a letter with a list of issues and send it to her and CC it to the owners and possibly a lawyer Tim knows. It's not my fault that the idiots upstairs kept flushing stuff they shouldn't, or that they were using a washing machine in an apartment not set up for it, or that it took AM forever to finally install a new check valve in my kitchen sink so I wasn't getting water backing up in my sink and on my kitchen floor.

How the heck this person got a job as an apartment manager, I'll never know.

(OK, I'm done.)

Yay, they're moving!

Don't remember if I posted this, but the loud obnoxious upstairs neighbors are moving! Of course, the downside is that they are banging around up there more and earlier and later than before, but it's for a good cause. This morning at 6AM I guess they decided to clean off their balcony, which is right above the window near where I sleep. It's been nice so the window's been open and all of a sudden there's this SPLASH because some of the water came in my window. I just slammed the window shut and figured I had to get up to go to work anyway.

Ever since these people moved in I've had lots of water problems. Before it was the kitchen sink, which was finally fixed when they put in a check valve. Only took a few years of flooding for that to get fixed, and now there's a decent amount of water damage in my apartment. With these people, I had water coming down into my kitchen because they were running a washing machine they claim not to run, then went out somewhere and it flooded their kitchen and came into mine. I'm also pretty sure they are the ones flushing things that aren't supposed to be flushed, which backs up my bathroom pretty badly. Every time this happens we find little blue aquarium rocks and they have an aquarium that holds these rocks. Now, I'm trying to get our landlord to do something about the bugs that have taken up residence. I've been there over 8 years now and this is the first time I've had this problem, and I'm pretty sure I know where it's coming from. Of course, if they'd spray the entire building at once instead of a little squirt in the apartment that is having the problem, maybe they'd get rid of them instead of chasing them.

So, I'm very glad these people are moving. I hope the replacements aren't worse -- it's always possible.

I'm so close to finishing Lady of the Flag it's driving me insane! I wish I'd had today off so I could finish the stitching. I'm down the the LIBERTY section at the bottom and have stitched some of it and a little of the area below it. I also was able to scratch a few items off my 101 list. Well, I posted here first but will be scratching them off momentarily. I did quite a bit of cleaning on Saturday and the backs of my legs are still pretty sore lol. I did a lot of scrubbing and I can't kneel because of a knee problem that causes a bump below my knee to stick out farther than my knee cap when my knee is bent and it hurts to put weight on it for very long. So, I guess I did more squat-type moves than I realized. Well, that's one way to get some added muscle. :)
