OK, I changed my mind

I'm still not in the mood to do real posting as usual, but didn't want to keep that rambling post as my last one for a while. So, here's some catching up with Movie Musings.

1. Well, we've covered over-all favorite films. Let's break it down a little more by starting in on genres. Baseball playoffs are upon us, which inspires me to ask: What are your favorite sports films? What sports films do you think are terrible? Do you tend to watch a lot of sports movies or very few, or do you avoid them completely? Which sports (if any) do you watch on television? Are those the same sports you enjoy as movies?

I'm really not into sports films, but one of my favorites is "The Sandlot." It's about kids in the early '60s who play baseball in a sandlot and the one kid is new and they teach him how to play and he snags his stepdad's baseball one day to use -- it was signed by Babe Ruth. Cute movie.

Other than that, I can't think of too many I liked or have even seen -- never had the urge to see "Field of Dreams" or "Bull Durham" or anything like that.

2. What is your favorite movie snack? Do you usually get something to eat and/or drink at the theater, or is it a rare treat? What snack (if any) do you usually eat while watching a movie at home?

At home I usually eat popcorn and drink soda or water. In the theater I tend to get chocolate or pretzels, as often movie popcorn just doesn't agree with my tummy. I don't even get the fake butter, but I think sometimes they don't clean the machines as much as they should.

3. Movie trailers: some love them, others loathe them. What do you think of them? Do you make it a point to arrive in time to see them, or do you try hard to walk into the theater after they're over? Do you ever watch/download them on the internet? There is even a television show that that only shows movie trailers. Do you watch that show, or would you if it was available in your area?

I don't mind them, for the most part. What I really don't like are the commercials before the movie -- especially for that Fanta soda crap. God, those are annoying! I get to the movies early, mainly so that I can get my food and my seat while I can still see. I hate going to a movie theater when it's already dark and full of people. I've watched a few online if I'm curious, but that's about it.

4. Halloween is fast approaching. Let's try another genre question. What are your favorite horror and/or suspense films? What horror/suspense films do you think are terrible? Do you tend to watch a lot of them, or do you avoid them completely? Do they give you nightmares and/or continue to "creep you out" for days, or are they gone as soon as you leave the theater?

I love horror/suspense movies for the most part, but not crazy about hacker/slasher films. My favorites off the top of my head are:

The Fog (original)
Halloween series
What Lies Beneath
Silence of the Lambs
Scream series (scary but funny)
The Ring
House on Haunted Hill (original)
Fallen
Se7en
Gothika
13 Ghosts
Ghost Ship
Alien (first one)

The only one that has given me nightmares wasn't supposed to be a horror movie -- "Saving Private Ryan." I dreamt all night that the Nazis were trying to find me. I'm not overly fond of "Wrong Turn," "The Grudge," and the "Nightmare on Elm Street" series.

Still around

Figured I'd check in. I've been a little "boarded-out" lately after seeing some of the crap lately. It's nothing new, just sometimes it gets to me and I have to take a break. I may go back to that other board someday, but I really don't feel like I'm missing anything but idiocy by not going back. I actually like quite a few of the people there, but I just don't have the patience for the nonsense there anymore.

I'm working on getting some things straightened out in my own life right now, so haven't been around as much. I'm still stitching and working, but looking for something better. I'll post more later. Just don't feel like writing much now.

Yes, I'm prejudiced

I'm prejudiced against people who believe that only nonwhite people commit crimes. I'm prejudiced against people who think all black people are criminals of some sort.
I'm prejudiced against people who think all Muslims are evil and want to blow us up.

Because of these prejudices, I won't be posting at a particular stitching board for a while. Granted, most of the people apparently won't care whether I'm there or not because I'm prejudiced against them.

Walk in Tim's shoes for a week and then tell me that "you only speak the truth."

My name is Mindy, and I'm an addict.

I'm addicted to popcorn -- not microwave or movie, but bagged. I got off that SmartFood white cheddar popcorn (you know, the kind in the black bag). Unfortunately, in order to get off the white cheddar I got hooked on Herr's butter popcorn. It's cheaper and a little better healthwise, but still not great and probably has a lot more sodium than I need. Is that like drinking beer to get off of drinking too much whiskey? Jeesh! I can just sit there and eat the stuff and not realize how much I'm eating. I'm trying to stitch more to keep my hands busy, but they must be putting something in that popcorn!

I need to start replacing popcorn with apples. I found cut apple slices in the market a few days ago and like them quite a bit. It probably sounds stupid to buy them, since they are more expensive, but they are great at work. I can't eat an apple the normal way because of my jaw, so I always end up cutting them up. Often apples at work rarely get eaten because I'm working and won't take the time to cut them up, especially if I can't find a decent knife. This way, I can just open a bag and voila! they they are. I tried cutting them at home but of course that didn't work because they turn brown so quickly.

So, that's my addiction. I wonder if there's a 12-step program out there for popcorn addiction.

Saw an interesting movie last night

I saw "Save the Last Dance" last night. It's a few years old but I had never seen it, thinking it was a typical teeny-bopper movie. I couldn't find anything else that I was in the mood for so I gave it a chance and really liked it. It still had a bit of a teeny-bopper feel to it, but it dealt with some real issues and I thought it was pretty good. For those who haven't seen it, it's about a girl who's a ballet dancer. Her mom gets killed and she has to live with her Dad in inner city Chicago. She ends up having a relationship with a black schoolmate who teaches her to dance hip-hop and she incorporates it into her dance routine for a Juilliard audition.

Anyway, there's a lot more to it than that, but the main thing was the relationship. It showed how he was pretty much ridiculed by many of his fellow male classmates for working hard and wanting to go to college. One boy in particular was smart but getting into lots of trouble, and this kid was trying to make him see that he's smarter than what he was doing, but the kid couldn't see it and ended up going to jail after a drive-by that went wrong. The girl gets a hard time from some black girls because she's coming in and taking one of the few of their men who is isn't in jail, on drugs, or a victim of a drive-by.

Some of the above are stereotypes, but there is some truth to them. I know that people always seem surprised that Tim is a responsible guy. I remember him telling a guy he dropped a $100 bill and the guy picked it up and looked at him like he was mad and didn't even thank him. What the hell is up with that? I also remember trying to have a nice dinner and getting harrassed by a couple of young black women who didn't think a white woman should be with a black man. They gave us a hard time when we left and decided that he was with me because I was a rich white girl with a car -- that was 10 years old with paint coming off and a huge scrape down the side LOL!

So, I think I may actually buy that movie. There aren't a lot of teen movies I like, but this is one of them.

OK, let's try again! I just tried to post this a minute ago but Blogger ate it. I'll copy and paste my code this time in case it happens again.

Anyway, I finished Christmas Jewel by Just Nan about a week or so ago, and here it is:
